About Bespoke Bakery
So how did Bespoke Bakery originate? Lesley started making cakes 42 years ago and initially she taught herself to bake and decorate cakes using a text book. The feedback that she received from friends and family was positive and encouraged her to go to college and study for City and Guilds Sugarcraft.
Lesley enjoyed the course so much that she went on to study advanced Royal Icing Techniques at Brooklands College in Weybridge. The following year, she went on to gain the City and Guilds 730 Teaching Certificate and became a teacher of sugarcraft at evening classes.
She also worked at the Basingstoke Sugarcraft Centre producing wedding, celebration and novelty cakes to a high standard and taught Royal Icing and sugar flower techniques in their classroom. She joined the British Sugarcraft Guild and later became a British Sugarcraft Guild Judge. Lesley has a sharp eye for detail and felt the chance to get involved in judging some of the high class exhibition work and provide feedback to both new and established competitors was too good an opportunity to miss.
Becoming more and more interested in the creativity and design aspects of cake decoration Lesley enrolled on an access course in Art and Design at her local college and then went on to study Art, Design and Media at Portsmouth University.
After all these years, Lesley feels she is still learning and would never be so pompous as to think she knew everything there is to know about cake making and sugarcraft. However, the experience she has gained over the years, both through baking and decorating cakes, studying and teaching cake decoration, and from judging competition work has given her the confidence to produce very individual cakes that are tailored to her customers’ requirements, hence the company name……
